The 'Ugly' Word thrown at you-Has the Media Gone Too Far?
Fashion magazines have started growing vastly, retouching and airbrushing are getting more and further away from resembling reality. Shrinking waists, Erasing blemishes, Vanquishing years, picture perfect skin. Five years ago was a different story, it was rare to see airbrushing and retouching in magazines and now around 77,000 advertisements are seen before an average girl turns 12 and most have been retouched. Airbrushing means the adverts contain completely unattainable images that no one can live up to in real life. Young girls are seeing images that have been edited far from reality and trying to pursue their dream girl, is it Possible to be someone that isn't even real? This is happening all around the world from ages as low as 6 years old. The latest computer technology is really pushing the boundaries now that every single picture has to be retouched and edited. Today's unrealistic idea of what ‘beautiful’ means is that young girls are under pressure a lot more, than 5 years ago. The teens of 2010 care a lot about their image and reputation, the more magazines they see the more models they see that have been retouched, which triggers their mind they must pursue that image. Young girls are going to the extent of dieting and around 1.1 million girls are becoming anorexic or bulimic dreaming to become someone that does not exist. The media are putting more and more retouched images in the magazines which are leading to more young girls wanting to be picture perfect. The media is creating a message; that in order to be beautiful, you must be perfectly skinny and have perfect hair and skin, it is no wonder teens that buy these magazines strive for beauty, but all this is unreal, but young girls are scared of that 'Ugly' word being thrown at them.
TO ALL GIRLS OUT THERE --
You are All BEAUTIFUL :)
The picture is black and white to show no one is different and everyone is Beautiful in their own way , if your thin or fat , doesnt matter what colour you are , your age , your height ETC .

Old New Media Readings
These are books I've been reading about old media precedents to new media forms. I've also ordered Lisa Gitelman's new book, Always Already New. Is there anything else I should be looking at? (Of course, there's history of the book and new media theory and orality/literacy and digital texts and on and on. I've got a lot of that stuff around here. What I'm looking for right now are other materials that deal specifically with the old media/new media issue.)
